Historic Wedding Proposal

In 1869, Joshua Trickey built The Wentworth as a wedding gift to his daughter Georgia Trickey and her husband-to-be, General Marshall Wentworth.  Before they were to be married, General Wentworth respectfully asked Mr. Trickey for his daughters hand in marriage.  We are lucky enough to have this very personal and intimate hand written letter at our historic hotel to this day.  It reads:

New York Nov 30th, 1869

Mr. J. Trickey My dear and respected Sir:

I thank you very much for your favorable answer to my proposal. I never can be grateful enough for the happiness you have bestowed upon me, rest assured that I shall always strive to merit your approbation. I think I can make your daughter happy- we love each other devotedly and are very anxious for your consent to marriage the 1st week in June 1869- and if we can get your consent we shall be very happy- it is very hard for us to be separated from each other for so long- but if you give us your consent to our union then it will not seem half so long and besides it will make us very happy.

I am very anxious to see your lovely daughter once more- it seems an age since I saw her. You can imagine how I feel to be separated from a lady that I love better than my life for two long years and not once having the pleasure of seeing her in the whole time.

Hoping that you will consider my proposal in as favorable a light as you did my other- I thank you again very kindly and close- hoping to hear from you soon.

Yours very respectfully, Marsh C. Wentworth
219 East 69th Street, NY

With such great history, it is only natural for The Wentworth to be considered as one of the most romantic and elegant wedding destinations of the Mount Washington Valley.

Special Offer for the Special Couple!

I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself to those of you who do not already know me.  My name is Kathleen DeVitto and I have had the pleasure of being The Wentworth’s Sales/Wedding Administrator for the past 4+ years.  I am one of the very few people out there who can actually say they enjoy what they do on a day to day basis.  Who wouldn’t enjoy meeting happy bridal couples and hearing their love story?

Planning a wedding can be somewhat nerve wracking, confusing and out right stressful for many brides to be.  There are so many little details that go into planning a memorable day that often times brides overlook.  That’s where I come in.  I will work with each bridal couple every step of the way.  We’ll chat about how they envisioned their day to be and then we’ll come up with creative ideas on how to execute. I keep my couples on track and focused on what details need to be planned next all while still making sure they are having fun, enjoying the process and not losing site of what the day is truly about.

Here we are, the beginning of February, and I can say we are just about booked for every weekend for the rest of 2013.  I do have a couple of weekends open still for July if there are any bridal couples looking to tie the knot soon.  Having as much experience as I do, planning a wedding for this July gives me more than enough time to gather details and customize a spectacular wedding weekend.  Remember, I’ll be there every step of the way to guide you through it.

It is my goal to have all my weekends booked with weddings for the year.  To help with this I would like to present a special offer to any bridal couple who books their wedding with me to be held in the month of July 2013 with a special discount of 100% off our regular tent rental fee of $2750.

For more information please contact me through email at kathleen@thewentworth.com or by calling 1-800-637-0013.

I look forward to creating a magical and memorable day with you!

Lots of things happening at The Wentworth!

April and May are typically considered “slow season” among the locals here in the valley, but The Wentworth is anything but “slow”!  We have so much going on to keep us all busy during our Mud Season.

I can’t even explain how excited I was when I came down the stairs from my office and looked out the back porch to see that our tent was just put up.  How can that be exciting you ask?  Seeing this tent is the first sign that the wedding season is upon us.  We have our first tent wedding next month!  Ashley’s wedding is going to be amazing!

Our maintenance department is surely keeping busy as well.  So many projects for them to do.  They just completed the last of the bathrooms in the main inn.  What a great job they did!  This compliments the new bedding and carpets we just added to the rooms in the main inn wonderfully.  Did I mention all new flat screen TV’s in all the standard/superior rooms?

Fritz, the owner, always tells us how important a guests’ first impression is.  With that said, we just completed the new decking at the main entrance and wrap around porch.  It looks gorgeous!  Nice and fresh looking!

A couple other projects we have going on within the next month is updating our bar/lounge area.  We’ll be turning this into an updated piano bar.  It’ll look great.  I can’t wait to see it when it’s done.  Lastly, but certainly not least, we will be transforming our gift shop into an art gallery.  Fritz’s son, Erik Koeppel, is quite the artist.  He’s done very well for himself in NY and is now a full time resident of Jackson.  There is something to be said about the beauty here in Jackson to have someone of his talent level want to move here for his inspiration.

As you can see, we are busy busy busy!  Stop in and take a look at all that’s going on or perhaps make a reservation to stay with us so you can take advantage of the low season rates.

Wentworth Weddings

Our wedding season is just wrapping up for the year 2011 at The Wentworth with just one small wedding left in December.
We just wanted to share with our readers a lovely review we just received on Trip Advisor:
Last week our daughter was married in a rather large wedding (180 guests) at The Wentworth Inn in beautiful Jackson, NH. Although quaint, quiet and intimate, it is very close to No. Conway (great shopping) and Mt. Washington, among many other tourist hot spots. It’s hard to describe how thrilled we are with our total experience! From the time we arrived, to the time we left, we felt like we were in someone’s romantic, beautiful, warm home surrounded by people whose only goal was to make us as comfortable and well taken care of as possible.
We delivered our daughter’s wedding paraphernalia (lots of it!) to the front door, spoke to Kathleen, the sales administrator (and amazing wedding contact person), and they took care of the rest! We had the rehearsal dinner, wedding ceremony, and wedding reception all at The Wentworth. The staff handed out our welcome bags to our guests upon check-in, which was huge for us, as we had 125 of them! All of our decorations, etc. were set out perfectly for us for each event…we had nothing to worry about for the whole weekend!
The food for both the rehearsal and wedding was nothing short of phenomenal! Even breakfast was outstanding! We wished we could have met the chef, but he was obviously very busy cooking fabulous meals! Ian, I believe he’s the dining room manager, was always around in the dining room to help with anything that we needed, which wasn’t much, because everything was already perfect! In fact, he was even there for us late into the night during our reception! We wondered when he slept!
Our room was in the Fairlawn building…a gorgeous, spacious room with an outdoor hot tub…clean and amazing. We had guests staying in the main inn, Fairlawn, Amster, Sunnyside, Arden and condomiums…all were more than happy with their accommodations! We received NO COMPLAINTS from any of our guests in the 3+ days that we were there!!
We can’t thank the owners, Ellie and Fritz, enough for allowing our daughter to have the magical wedding that she had always dreamed of. Between the two of them, Ian, Kathleen, and the entire Wentworth Staff we had the best possible experience we could have asked for. We came away feeling as though we gained some very good friends! Thank you all so much! We can’t wait to go back!
So, if anyone reading this is even considering The Wentworth Inn for dinner, a weekend or week away, a wedding or any type of event at all, go ahead and book it! You won’t be disappointed!

Thank you so much to all of our brides and grooms of 2011 – each and every wedding was special and we wish you all many years of happiness.

Weddings Are In Full Swing at The Wentworth

This is by far my favorite time of the year.  With the kids out playing in the water and the sun beaming on my face while I watch the vactioners have a great time relaxing, how can you not love summer in The White Mountains.  I say to myself quite often, “imagine you actually get to live here”.  What could be better?  Easy……my job

Summer is the season of the weddings and we have a wedding scheduled every weekend until the middle of November here at The Wentworth.  I absolutely love working with all my bridal couples.  I have, by far, the best job in the hotel.  It’s happiness all the time.  So far we’ve had about 6 weddings this year.  All are very different in their own way but each just as beautiful as the next.  The little details, creativity and personalization that goes into planning a wedding has always been my joy.  The vendors my brides choose have been amazing.  A “must see” is the work of Carrie from Dutch Bloemen Winkel, a local florist here in Jackson as well as the work of some photographers like Meg Simone, Jay Philbrick or Anne Skidmore.

Fridays are great here at the hotel.  The bridal couple has checked in and friends and family fill up the inn with laughter and warm greetings.  The back office transforms into a wedding wonderland with all the welcome baskets, card boxes, favors and decorations.  Usually there is some sort of a Welcome Reception on Friday night and typically in the summer months it is a low key fun filled BBQ on the back deck.  Saturday is always such a beautiful day.  Everyone dressed in their best and the tent transforms into a page from a catalog.  The brides, gorgeous, all of them!  It’s a bitter sweet moment for me.  All of our hard work coming together and seeing the guests and bridal couples reaction is wonderful but I know that this will be the last day I get to work with them.  Bitter sweet indeed.  Bonds are formed and some even turn into long lasting friendships.

Oh, the joys of summer and weddings in The White Mountains!

Amazing Photo by Philbrick Photography

The Wentworth has had the opportunity to work with one of the most amazing and creative photographers.  Jay Philbrick and his wife Vicki team up to produce such gorgeous wedding photos.  Our brides just love him.  He has this way of capturing the moment and telling a story through his photos.

We had a wedding here at The Wentworth in August with Christie and Kevin.  They were so much fun to work with and just genuinely wonderful people.  Their wedding was jam packed with only the best of everything.  Jay Philbrick was their photographer.  He captured photos from the Welcome Reception the night before, the day of the wedding and also a follow up session.  This was no ordinary session though.  With the braveness of Christie and Kevin, Jay was able to capture the most amazing photo ever…..hanging over a cliff on Cathedral Ledge.

Jay’s work has won him a number of awards one of which was first place in an International Wedding Photo competition.  One of Jay’s many gorgeous photos is also currently on the Fall/Winter cover of New Hampshire’s Magazine BRIDE.  Please check out more photos from this photos shoot at Philbrickphoto.com/RecentEvents.htm under Cliffhanger Day-After Session.

Wedding Season is Here at The Wentworth!

Finally!!  After all the preparation and anticipation, wedding season is finally underway and in full force.  No signs of slowing down….just how we like it!

Last weekend we had a beautiful wedding with an even more beautiful bride.  After enjoying a delicious dinner for their rehearsal on Friday night here in the hotel, Valerie and Evan amazed their guests on Saturday with an elegant cocktail reception, exquisite dinner and a fun filled evening of entertainment and dancing in our lobby.  So much fun was had by all.
